Measuring clinical judgment has been one of the major undertakings of the Next Generation NCLEX project. The latest NGN Talk looks at the different parts of the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model - and what NCSBN is doing to measuring them.

The NCSBN Leadership Succession Committee (LSC) host a Leadership Succession Call to recognize influential NCSBN Leaders to provide future, emerging, and current leaders of NCSBN with opportunities to enhance and develop leadership succession knowledge and skills. 

On April 29, 2019, LSC Committee members Sara Griffith, Board Staff, North Carolina Board of Nursing, and Melissa Hanson, Board Staff, North Dakota Board of Nursing, interviewed two NCSBN leaders about their experiences in running for office. Paula Meyer, Executive Director, Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission, and David E. Saucedo II, Board Member, Texas Board of Nursing discussed the comraderies they experienced from serving in leadership positions. Learn about their roads to leadership, the confidence they gained and the mentors who influenced them to get involved.

The NCLEX-RN examination test plan includes an in-depth overview of the content categories along with details about the administration of the exam as well as NCLEX-style item writing exercises and case scenario examples.

Summary data for multiple categories of candidates, U.S. and international, is provided for performance on NCSBN's two nurse licensure examinations, the NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN.

This periodic performance of practice analyses (i.e., job analysis) studies assists NCSBN in evaluating the validity of the test plan that guides content distribution of the licensure examination. Because changes can occur in licensed practical/vocational nurse (LPN/VN) practice, practice analyses are conducted on a three-year cycle.

This study identifies the knowledge needed by newly licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs). The results of this study (i.e., the important knowledge statements) will be used to inform item development.

Test validity is the degree to which evidence and theory support the interpretations of test scores. It’s the most important criteria when determining exam quality – and a continuous process that helps gather evidence and data that determine sound scoring methods. This NGN talk looks at what's being done to ensure the validity of the Next Generation NCLEX.
