By 1936, every state had passed a law to restrict possession of cannabis, thus eliminating its availability as an over-the-counter drug. Then in 1970, the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act (1970) provided a classification of controlled substances; cannabis was included in the list of Schedule I Controlled Substances, thereby continuing the restriction of the use of cannabis by prohibiting health care practitioners from prescribing cannabis. This federal classification also limits the scope and type of research on Schedule I Controlled Substances; effectively preventing open and unlimited research on cannabis.

I'm Lauren Papillion, and we are navigating through the APRN license discipline process. We are going to cover the board and its jurisdiction, the complaint and investigation process, discipline and alternatives to discipline. The post-discipline process, and along the way and at the end we will have other examples and discussion. I don't want to go overboard with the navigational theme, but I do like the analogy of a ship, which is a tangible piece of property. You can own a vehicle to get around. You have a property right in your APRN license distinct from the RN license, and you should keep these licenses well maintained so you can keep smooth sailing through your advanced practice registered nursing.

WHAT IS PHYSICAL DEPENDENCE TO OPIOIDS? • Physical dependence is the term describing the combined phenomenon of tolerance and withdrawal. “My body has become tolerant to opioids, and if I stopped using abruptly, I would experience withdrawal. That means I am now physically dependent.” 12 3. WHAT IS PHYSICAL DEPENDENCE TO OPIOIDS? Anyone who takes opioids in a sufficient dose and duration for any reason will develop physical dependence.
