    As of 2020, there were a total of 27 states that shared their APRN data through the Nursys database. These states are colored dark gray on the map you see on this slide. As you will note, while not a complete picture of the U.S., the Nursys database gave us good coverage across the country and strong geographic diversity. While these 27 states constituted the overall sample for our survey, we also drilled down further to highlight observed discipline trends for a four-state subset to better examine the safety of APRN care.

    It does not, however, provide information on support workers that often compliment nursing care/delivery teams. As mentioned earlier, the report uses the Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for exploring nursing contribution. In particular, it focuses on SDG three, good health and well-being, SDG four, quality education, SDG five, gender equality and SDG eight, decent work and economic growth. It is, however, important to note that whilst the focus is on these four SDGs, nursing can contribute through action, advocacy, or alignment with all 17 goals.

Every five years, the REx-PN passing standard will be re-evaluated to ensure that success on the REx-PN continues to reflect the amount of nursing knowledge needed to practice competently at the entry level. How do NCSBN and regulators ensure the exam content reflects Canadian practice? Several methods are used to ensure the REx-PN reflects Canadian practice: The Practice Analysis survey gathers information about what activities entry-level LPN/RPNs are actually performing as part of their jobs. The results of the Practice Analysis in turn lead to the REx-PN Test Plan, which defines the content eligible to be tested. Exam items are then developed to measure knowledge of — but not go beyond —this eligible content.
