In the report, Henley reviewed the recommendations of the Rules Committee which have been approved by the Executive Committee. These recommendations come after a comprehensive review of the current rules by the Rules Committee. This includes proposed amendments to the current rules, proposed new rules and recommendations to retire certain rules. There was significant Commissioner comment on the proposed new rules related to (1) alternative to discipline program participation and (2) 60-day requirement to apply for a license when changing PSOR. Staff is directed to send the rulemaking handbook with proposed rules to members.

Many state boards of nursing will generally define nursing practice as some variation of “when a nurse utilizes his or her education/knowledge, skills or judgment/ decisionmaking.” Travel Nurses When a nurse is on a travel assignment at a facility and the nurse who holds a multistate license has a primary state of legal residence in the compact home state, that nurse is able to practice in the remote compact state under the multistate privilege to practice as long as the nurse maintains legal residence status in the home state.

These included implementing provider orders, verifying client identity, practicing infection prevention, maintaining client dignity and privacy, and handling medication safely. The data suggest that while some activities are dependent on clinical setting, there is a consistent core of responsibilities that apply broadly across nursing practice. NCSBN Publishes 2024 National Nursing Workforce Study As the largest and most comprehensive research study of the nursing workforce, this research revealed data that have wide ranging impact on the health care system as a whole and for patient populations, now and in the immediate future. This study found that while there are encouraging signs of recovery and work stability, persisting systemic challenges and a prevailing malaise among nurses endures. Concerns about understaffing, threats of workforce shortages and nurse discontent continue to pose significant risks to the health care ecosystem.
