By addressing the various PN studies in this paper, NCSBN began serving as a clearinghouse for PN data, as recommended by the PN Focus Group. Also, based on the PN Focus Group recommendations, NCSBN’s Board of Directors now carefully considers committee membership, appointing LPN/VN representatives from member boards whenever possible. Further, the NCSBN Model Rules are now available on the NCSBN Web site: www.ncsbn.org/312.htm and are periodically updated to include any changes in PN practice. One very exciting initiative that arose from discussions at the PN Focus Group is that the National Association for Practical Nurse Education Service (NAPNES) has begun to develop a national PN curriculum.

I also was thinking it was very important that he should be on a fluid restriction because that was his current issue. What have you learned from this situation? From this situation I was able to learn that it is important to take time and sit down with a patient and teach them something so simple about good versus bad food relating back to the kidney disease. Since this patient wasn’t end stage renal disease, this small action could improve his kidney function over time and slow the disease down a little bit. So there is a question that says, "Nice presentation." Thank you. It says, "What was the percent of your sample in relation to total number of primary care NP in New York? Did you include all population-based NPs, percentage reflected?" This is a very good question. To be honest, I mean, one of the interesting things, it's very difficult to track the actual number of NPs in New York because that information is really not collected. But, you know, so we only had about 300 nurse practitioners, and I think there are more than 10,000, I believe, nurse practitioners in New York.

In August of 2008, NCSBN’s membership adopted faculty qualifications to meet the health care challenges of the future, and these have been incorporated into NCSBN’s model administrative rules (NCSBN, 2004a). These qualifications were based on the best available evidence (NCSBN, 2008c). Faculty/student ratios are often reviewed, as is the ratio of full-time to part-time faculty, though NCSBN’s model education rules do not have recommendations for faculty/student ratios. The process of faculty evaluation and promotion is reviewed, and the visitors look for evidence of student input into faculty evaluations.

Microphone number five. - Lori Scheidt, Missouri. So I have a lot of comments about this. - I knew, that's why I was waiting for you, Lori. - I know. I tried to resist. I'm glad you're looking at this. I think it's a heavy lift for your committee. So, good luck. Because I do think that we're all at this crossroad. I hear it in many of our meetings that, "It's high pressure, lower the bar." We're also faced with credential agencies that their primary clientele, and the customer that they're wanting to make happy is the nurse and then employer.
