By the end of this session, you will be able to, one, discuss REx-PN security measures. Two, define the REx-PN accommodations process. And three, identify some common accommodation requests. For the first REx-PN process, I will go over testing security and the measures that will be put in place for the exam. We'll start with the ways in which NCSBN verifies candidate identity. Then we'll also look at the testing environment itself. More specifically, how the delivery system works for secure test administration.

Much debate focused on how workplace transition programs could better understand workers who are still students in many respects. One attendee, Jolene Beaumont, RN, vividly remembers struggling to switch from her nursing school environment into the day-to-day rigors of nursing at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, Michigan. “I had a fast, four-week orientation,” said Beaumont. “Your ability to develop confidence takes a hit because technology is such that nurses can’t possibly learn everything in school. Luckily, I have a supportive manager and a nurturing staff, so there’s a family of people to hold you up when you’re falling down.”

Leader to Leader, Fall'05 FINAL
The differences in the scope of practice proved most challenging for the group. Panelist Gwendolyn Odom, an LPN from Illinois noted, “The experience, knowledge and commitment of the Panel of Experts to the practical nursing profession left me speechless. I am truly amazed by the differences in our scope of practices.” Working together the panel refined the list of nursing activities until the panel felt they had a comprehensive list of competencies that represented the broad spectrum of LPN/VN post-entry level practice throughout the country.
