Disch_Exploring_how_nsg_schools_handle_student_errors.pdf
There may be several reasons for these findings: faculty members may not see student errors and near misses as a prior ity, or as much of a problem at all; they might be un aware of such events occurring at their school; or they may believe that current school policies and processes adequately address such situations. It’s worth noting that among the additional com ments made by respondents, several indicated that faculty members just haven’t thought about this issue. One respondent said, “I have never thought about tracking our clinical errors in this manner, but it really has me thinking.” Another noted, “As a new depart ment chair . . . I appreciate your study as it makes me mindful of [the] need to track these events and their followup.”

NCSBN’s National Nursing Education Database Spotlights Key Quality Indicators of US Nursing Education Programs | NCSBN
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. Drawn from data from 34 states and more than half of the country’s nursing programs representing 284,000 nursing students, the database shows how key quality indicators impact programs and how programs compare with each other. “The database allows filtering by degree, geography, ownership and enrollment. I think one of the most valuable components of the database is the ability to examine how different types of programs compare to each other by whether the program is private, public or for-profit, and how the credentials and stability of the program’s deans and faculty can potentially impact factors like NCLEX pass rates,” comments NCSBN Nursing Education Policy Director Nancy Spector, PhD, RN, FAAN.
