So make sure you use that documentation to prepare your students for the NCLEX. - Thank you, Dr. Hong. Emily, I have a question for you, and it's one that I get a lot when I meet with educators, and that is during item writing, do we still exclusively use client or do we sometimes say patient? - Yes, that's a good question that we do get a lot. But on the NCLEX exam, the patient is referred to as client. So throughout the whole exam, no matter what you get, clinical judgment sets or you get the single items, the traditional items or the standard, you know, things like that, all of it will be referred to as client.

Jen, our coordinator, and Xi out there, you know, managing our social media right now and so any candidates that have questions in real-time on their way to work or school, they can tweet at us and we can answer any of their questions. And, of course, any personal information, we'll message them privately but it's a good outreach to your students and our candidates. Another resource that might be beneficial for students and candidates is our Practice Exam that launched last year. It is a product, purchasable, and we have three products, we have the NCLEX PN, RN, RN French.

In some areas of nursing education there has been enough research done to establish best practices such as the charac teristics and qualities of effective clinical teachers. But how many clinical teachers are aware of that research and use the evidence as a basis for how they teach students? In other areas of nursing education, studies have described teaching practices that suggest the need for improvement. A good example is the research done on the levels of questions asked by nursing faculty. These studies have consistently shown that teachers ask questions that students can answer by recalling facts, not questions requiring higher level thinking or clinical judgment (Gaberson and Oermann, 2007; ProfettoMcGrath, Smith, Day and Yonge, 2004).

And also, when referring to the U.S., this will be the findings from a majority of the states, while it is acknowledged that there may be a few states that are an exception to a finding. So, all jurisdictions have a legal framework that requires an educational qualification, language proficiency, and good character in order to obtain licensure or registration. And seven of the nine jurisdictions also have a requirement for recency of practice. Some jurisdictions have specified legal requirements for an external assessment or examination prior to licensure or registration.

Every item is pre-tested before it's placed on an exam for scoring purposes. This is our opportunity to gather statistical data to make sure that the item is functioning well. And this data is used to evaluate the items and to ensure that everything is accurate and that it's a good fit for the NCLEX exam. So, the RN and PN exam both have 15 pre-test items. They're randomly intermixed into the exam. Candidates are not aware which items are pre-test items and which ones are actually scored. They are not scored, so they are not used to measure a candidate's ability.

And I think Jim, together with Alicia and Rachel and our ICRS staff, are going to be just a dynamite team. We have two new individuals that are a head of the certificate program, Amy Lippert and Sherri Ter Molen. They both have tremendous experience in education, and so be looking for many good things ahead with this department. And just to tell you, besides ICRS, I'm going to talk a little bit about that in a minute, but this new department is also going to focus on developing leadership skills throughout our entire membership, increasing your networking opportunities, increasing the opportunities for members to participate in NCSBN.
