    It made it cost-prohibitive for people like me to get affordable care. And I got really upset and I was like, you know what? It's on. I'm running and launched a campaign. I beat six guys in a Democratic primary, and then I beat that four-term Tea Party Republican congressman by 5 points in November of 18, becoming the youngest black woman to ever serve in the Congress. And so, now I'm in my third term and get to do this fun work on healthcare and nursing issues. I serve on the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee and the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee.

    However, similar to other faculty of color in 2022, perhaps as a result of pandemic upheaval, this value increases to 6.3%. However, in 2024, we observe a return to pre-pandemic proportions around 1.6%. We see a similar trend when we look at the gender distribution of nurse faculty. Pre-pandemic, male faculty typically represented about 5% to 6% of the nurse faculty workforce. Once again, we see the proportion of men rise to 9% in 2022, which may be the result of pandemic upheaval. Turning now to the highest nursing credential attained, we observe that fewer faculty are topping out with master's degrees.
