The next scoring rule is the +/- scoring rule. It is derived from signal detection theory which characterizes the process of identifying signal over noise. This scoring rule is used when candidates are instructed to choose an unspecified number of options. They can earn points by endorsing correct options and lose points by endorsing incorrect options. Identifying more correct information result in higher scores. The maximum number of these points is the total number of correct options. The minimum point is zero, no negative scores are allowed.
