In Spain, in 1977, it was made mandatory for all RNs to have a university degree, and all nurses were required to upgrade to this level to maintain their registration. In the United States, no state has a requirement for a university degree for initial licensure and diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor and master's degrees are all accepted.
