    There is even less research that provides guidance in addressing how testing program design factors can mitigate the impact of compromised items. Also, studies addressing how potential trade-offs in test design factors can affect test score validity have been lacking. For example, in terms of increasing the likelihood of producing valid scores, I have not seen research that clearly describes whether it is better (in a CAT context) to expose larger amounts of the operational item pool less times, or a lesser Defining Item Compromise: 9 numbers of items more times. The answer to that type of question has a direct impact on issues related to item pool design, rotation policy and size.

    More importantly, the study found that the nonrespondent knowledge statement ratings were similar to the respondent ratings; this similarity supports the validity of the results of this study. A full report of the nonrespondent study can be found in Appendix I. Summary A panel of 12 RNs experienced in the practices of newly licensed RNs met and created a list of 312 knowledge statements that are important for a newly licensed RN to possess. A data collection instrument was developed, piloted and revised prior to being emailed.

By working to prevent proxy testers, the technology helps Pearson and NCSBN maintain the integrity of the NCSBN examination and enable boards of nursing to fulfil their mandate of public protection. For this specific purpose, the templates or biometric data derived from the palm scanning system are kept in a secure database in order to: (i) verify an individual’s identity during certain instances when the individual attempts to take an NCSBN examination; and (ii) confirm, in the context of an investigation or audit, that the individual did not attempt to retake an NCSBN examination within three (3) years after passing the exam.
