Take the time to read materials, to be on the phone, talk with colleagues, to make sure you are prepared to make decisions, and to participate in deliberations at the table. I was fortunate when I started as an EO that Julie George, she was assigned as my mentor. We had a wonderful working relationship and I appreciated her. Her counsel and advice and kind of her thing she would always reinforce was just being prepared. And not only at the board table being prepared, but that carries over into all aspects of our lives.
