However, for NGN, these items can be a mix of stand-alone items and case studies. To make sure that all candidates get only 15 pretest items, candidates could see any of the following 3 scenarios. First of all, they could receive all 15 standalone items. In a second scenario, they could receive 9 standalone items and 1 case study item, which is 6 items making up the 15 in total. Or finally the third scenario you could see are 3 stand-alone items and 2 case studies which would comprise 12 items, making a total of 15. Each of these scenarios ensures that all candidates will have an equal number of unscored items.

The outcomes that we measured were any opioid, morphine milligram equivalents of greater 100 milligrams per day, a 7-day opioid prescription overlap of 2 opioids, a 7-day opioid and benzodiazepine overlap, as well as whether beneficiary was an acute user, which was defined as under 3 months of opioid use, or a chronic user, which was defined as greater 3 months of opioid use.
