    Thirty-five of the remaining 39 nurses ultimately successfully completed KSTAR with an individualized education plan. Four of the 39 did not successfully complete KSTAR, and they were referred back to the Board. And looking at the total 49 nurses who successfully completed either with or without an education plan, none of them had recidivated 12 months or 24 months after completion of KSTAR, meaning none of them had committed a subsequent practice violation that resulted in additional Board discipline. And then looking at a control group of nurses who completed a traditional warning order, only 1 in the control group of 82 nurses had a subsequent practice violation after completing a traditional remediation order.

    I want to make the link here for you between trauma and substance abuse because it's not probably a surprise to you that someone who is as uncomfortable with those symptoms that we discussed, that is a really difficult way to live. And if you have difficulty being with them for an hour or two or however long your contact point is, imagine being with themselves 24/7. It's miserable. And so, one of the ways that individuals who are suffering that deeply and feel so helpless about what to do and how to manage, one of the things, of course, that they turn to is substance abuse. And it gives them a break. And we understand that people who have been traumatized are some of the most prolific consumers of substances, and I think it's pretty easy to appreciate why.
