Sometimes, with these kinds of things, something pops into your head right after I walk off stage. Ask me anytime. But I do have one announcement, which is simply that, immediately after this session, which we're getting right on, there is lunch. It's in the room where the breakfast was. But we do need you back at 1:30. Be back at 1:30, please, in this room, and we'll continue with the program

The findings from Phases 1 and 2 comprise two large and detailed reports. In this presentation, I will try to give you an overview of the main findings of this work. So Phase 1 explored whether trans- jurisdictional mobility was potentially feasible, and what would need to be in place for this to happen.

And so, they were they looked at about 500 and really, they found a lot of similar characteristics to what we've already heard about. So, the old white males were getting in trouble, but they found some other interesting things. So for example, rurality and urbanity was mentioned earlier. In North Carolina, there's a 2:1 ratio between urban-based physicians and rural physicians. But in terms of prescribing cases, it's actually a 10:1 ratio. So 10 times more prescribing cases occurred within an urban environment. And so this is a risk factor they weren't really anticipating, to my knowledge, and so now it's causing them to look at this a little bit more closely.

Similarly high proportions reported feeling emotionally drained (50.8%), used up (56.4%), fatigued (49.7%), burned out (45.1%), or at the end of their rope (29.4%) “a few times a week” or “every day.” These issues were most pronounced among nurses with 10 or fewer years of experience, driving an overall 3.3% decline in the U.S. nursing workforce during the past 2 years. Conclusion: High workloads and unprecedented levels of burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic have stressed the U.S. nursing workforce, particularly younger, less experienced RNs. These factors have already resulted in high levels of turnover with the potential for further declines.

So, that was important to us because we know from other research that we've conducted that solo practitioners or people in a small specialty group tend to have higher rates of burnout due to a lack of feedback and interaction with colleagues, which leads to complaints, mistakes, and errors. So, the other reason that this 52% is interesting from a data point of view is that only 7% of our total physician population practice in a group of less than 5. So, 7% of the population make up 52% of the recidivists. So, we just kind of thought that would've been an opportunity. So, these are the demographics that we pulled, just trying to find some way to start this research.
