And, of course, public policy, like a car seat guideline has changed and medication disposal changes. So those would trigger us as test developers to take a look at the items that we have that may actually include that content. ©2020 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. That one was a common one. And then here you see a few more listed as well. So after we recognize that there are some changes that need to be made to our items, we do many corrective actions.

Again, your final ability is calculated based on all questions you have answered. If you have answered at least 60 operational items and your final ability is above the passing standard, you pass the exam. If you ©2022 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 5 have not answered at least 60 operational items or your final ability is at or below the passing standard, you fail the exam. This example will demonstrate an exam that ran out of time. When you answer 60 operational questions, the computer starts to compare your ability to the passing standard.

For these concepts, you are expecting DIF items, but again, these concepts are required by nursing practice. Even though they have DIF, they are not biased, and we still keep these items. Let's summarize the DIF review process. ©2024 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 5 First, the DIF panel will read the item and indicate the groups showing DIF such as female versus male, US versus Canadian, white versus Asian Indian, and so on. The second step is to form hypotheses about why the item may have DIF for or against a group.

The NEC establishes and maintains NCLEX policies in addition to reviewing all NCLEX items prior to scoring. The NCLEX translation process maintains a three-tiered approach, item translation, independent review and an in-field item analysis.

Second, there was a genuine group difference, but nursing practice required the concept to be tested. For example, historically for some items that touch on pregnancy or child care, females routinely do better than males. ©2025 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. As a result, we keep such items because it is important for entry-level nurses to know. Regardless of gender, ethnicity, and or backgrounds, an entry-level nurse still needs to do the job and it is the same job.

Yes, we know that there's 5 million or so unduplicated LPNs and RNs in the nation, but there's more than 4 million support workers. And how are they deployed? And how are they contributing to the agenda? One example, here's a general example, strengthening and consolidating leadership.

There is no one else to hire. And then I love this slide because it really shows the impact. It shows the impact of all that research study that started with the South Dakota Board of Nursing. When you look at this, we see that we have kept safe nearly 50,000 kids over the last 5 years, as from 2020 to 2025. We've done over 100,000 visits, seen over 20,000 individual kids. But I would say on this slide, what I'm most proud of is the learning days saved. And the reason that is, is because the whole point of school is to learn.

Will the case study simply always follow the six cognitive processes in order, or might there be a case study where something happens and the candidate, let's say, has to go back and reanalyze some cues instead of proceeding to, let's say, step 4 or step 5? - Somebody's reading the future TVs [SP] I think. But no, today and going live in 2023, it will be a linear set of six items, and it will progress sequentially through each one of the clinical judgment measurement model steps. That's what will be going live in April of 2023. - Thank you.
