In May 2011, NEC members recommended that BONs begin to require national nursing accreditation of all prelicensure nursing programs to: (1) Reduce the redundancy associated with continued approval of programs; (2) Use resources more efficiently; and (3) Foster the educational advancement of nursing graduates, as recommended by the IOM Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health report (2011).

Steps for Board Staff to Make MSL “Not Active” Method 1: Speed Memo=Making the license “Not Active” STEP 1 Board staff in the licensee’s new PSOR verify in Nursys® that the applicant holds or has ever held an active MSL in another NLC state. STEP 2 Upon issuance of a MSL in the new PSOR, the board of nursing (BON) will send a speed memo to the former PSOR BON, notifying them of the issuance and that the former license be made “not active” and the expiration date should reflect the date the change was made.
