So there are some real keeners out there and, you know, then we have others who've done the three. So I'm happy to answer any questions that you might have if I have one minute or two left. Two minutes? Okay. Sorry about that, but you're welcome to contact me, you know, any time if you want more information. - [Woman 1] [inaudible] not answered the question... - Yes. - [Woman 2] [inaudible] - Oh, okay. - And I know you hadn't given... Just a quick review on this. Sorry I left because I stepped on this and hit myself in the face with the microphone. ©2018 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

So for every book that espouses... and they're both important by the way, you need both of them. But for every book that espouses horizontal development there's... for every 50 books ©2018 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 9 written about horizontal development, there's only 1 book written about vertical development. So there's a 50-to-1 relationship. And vertical development absolutely lives in the left two quadrants. So again, belaboring the point to make a point about how much is working against us when we talk about the 70% success or failure number when it comes to any kind of change initiative.

  • The Necessity of Innovation: Protecting the Public Through Progress | NCSBN

Innovation is a necessity. NCSBN is exploring technology to improve how candidates take the NCLEX both inside and outside of traditional test centers. Dickison notes, "People will still be able to use test centers if they choose and the NCLEX will be the same rigorous exam no matter where you take it." Taking the NCLEX online would also make it more accessible. Not every candidate lives near a test center. For some candidates, getting to an exam site means significant travel, time and expense. Being able to take the NCLEX online removes some of these barriers to entering the nursing profession. Expanding where candidates can take the exam means expanding the pool of qualified nurses ready to serve their communities.

So in 2015, New York State passed the policy called nurse practition modernization act, which removed the required written practice agreement between physicians and experienced nurse practitioners, those who have 3,600 hours of clinical practice, which is about 2 years of experience. So starting from 2015, in New York State, nurse practitioners with more than 2 years of experience are able to deliver care without requirement of written practice agreement with physician. So this opportunity, this policy change, created an opportunity for our research team to assess and understand whether this policy change had an impact on nurse practitioner work environment, what changes we observed after this policy change within the work environment.
