These nurses are entitled, just like anyone else, to have appropriate medical care. And that appropriate medical care, if the nurse has ADHD, may include amphetamines, may include benzodiazepines, may include psychotropic medications. And that's where the medical director comes in to make sure that that medication, those prescriptions are appropriate, are managed appropriately, etc.

Microsoft Word - Final_08_Faculty_Qual_Report.doc
Likewise, NCSBN research (NCSBN, 2006b) has found significant differences in student outcomes when faculty members have in-depth interactions with students. Position statements from the National League for Nursing (NLN, 2002) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN, 2008b) support graduate clinical preparation. While the NLN (2002) statement stresses the need for more attention to the teaching/pedagogical component of the educator role, they also acknowledge that educators still need to be competent clinicians and that the scientific basis for practice is important. AACN (2008b, p. 1) more specifically states, “Clinically focused graduate preparation is the minimal expectation for clinical instruction and the coordination of mentoring of preceptors.”

And you probably have emails that deal with very sensitive information. This one area matters that are confidential. I know I talk to people from Pennsylvania, and man, those things are really strict in terms of the confidentiality there. You may be dealing with medical records of patients who aren't subject to discipline but who are just factual witnesses in a disciplinary case. So using your personal email, you need to be careful about what you have in there, what attachments are being sent to you, what information.

I would simply say that I think that priorities for nursing right now, and we've not talked a lot about it, but if you ask most nurses what's the priority, it's staffing. So, we've, you know, alluded to it by talking about the pipeline, the shortage, the impact of COVID. But I really do think that there has to be attention given at a national level, from a regulatory perspective, a policy perspective of defining what is safe staffing, and how are we going to get there, and why is it so variable from one part of the country to the other, one organization to another?

I grew up in a family that spent a lot of time on the water sailing and know from those days that if one does not look up and out, the effects can slow you down or be disastrous. If one does not see the obstacles ahead, or the other boats sailing on the same water, or does not pay attention to the direction of the wind or the storm blowing, it does not matter how well designed your craft is or how experienced is your crew. You may be left behind or worse still, hit by the boom. For those of you who've been sailing, you know the effect of being hit by the boom.

Well, where's the jail you're going to put them? Right? So what they could do is they could inflict up to 100 lashes with a whip. And that can be intimidating in the short term, but it's not very motivating in the long term, right? Or what really could get their attention is you'd cut their alcohol ration because they get a daily alcohol ration. And if you're denied your gill of whiskey for that day, then, you know, that's got your attention. There are no teetotalers on this expedition. So Lewis and Clark start out with a group that's pretty disorderly, and over time, they reach an understanding with the men.

Also making sure that we had time to give them an actual hard copy in a laminated form if we needed, and that they had access to that form electronically when they were in the four-week evaluation timeframe was really important. - Thank you so much, Crystal. I'm going to turn our attention to interrelator reliability practices. Many of your colleagues in the chat were asking questions around those procedures. Kaitlyn, I recall you mentioned interrelator reliability exercises in your program. Can you talk about those in detail and what did that look like for your organization?
