    In addition to the Nursys educational campaign, we changed our messaging to applicants and licensees. That messaging was to register as a nurse in Nursys e-Notify. This messaging was incorporated in all of our application instruction letters and an email when a license is issued, on our website and in our renewal portal. We want a nurse to enroll a Nursys e-Notify, which allows the nurse to receive license issuance and expiration reminders, changes in multi-state license status, and alerts if discipline is attached to the record. The workforce questions are incorporated in Nursys e-Notify.

Here's another slide that has orientation for students and residents, kind of stuff. I would draw your attention to the fact that the Federation of State Physician Health Programs does have criteria now, you can get them on their website, for evaluation and treatment of safety-sensitive healthcare professionals. And the American Society of Addiction Medicine also has useful guidelines for understanding the importance of safety-sensitive healthcare professional-specific treatment for addiction and other psychiatric difficulties.

    Certainly, one strategy has to be a clear and profound focus on the obstacles that nurses are encountering in the work setting. We know that violence is an issue. We absolutely know that nurses have a fatigue factor right now that is unprecedented. And through a series of surveys conducted by the American Nurses Foundation called "Pulse of the Nation Survey" done throughout the pandemic, we absolutely know that mental stress is a significant factor that is, of course, affecting nurses staying in the workforce and affecting nurses' ability to provide competent care if you will.

    He puts a sense of urgency into his message, not a fear of coming in last, but an idea that we are on the precipice of something good. Why would we hesitate? Why wouldn't we want to do this? Why wouldn't we want to test ourselves against the greatest challenge that humanity had ever set before itself? He also wanted it to be relatable, to relate to the audience at all points, at all times, to relate to the common American, not just the scientist American, not just the astronaut American, but the everyday American, the taxpaying American, who would need to understand what the justification was for this. And he allowed in his rhetoric, regular people to feel involved, to feel that they mattered, to feel that what they were doing was helping the nation get to the moon.
