Statement from the Tri-Council for Nursing: When Nurses Vote, Health Care Policy Changes for the Better | NCSBN
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: media@ncsbn.org Without nurses, quality care would be out of reach for many U.S. residents. As the largest, most trusted health care profession , nurses’ influence on public health and policy cannot be overstated. With so much at stake for the future of health care, it is essential for nurses to make their voices heard, because when nurses speak, health care changes for the better. Nurses benefit society in many ways and positively impact patients and health care systems. This experience, in addition to the public’s trust in the profession, makes nurses’ voices invaluable when improving health care and meeting patients’ needs.

Marijuana-Impaired Driving
The report is to educate the public that drugs other than alcohol, including marijuana, are absorbed, distributed and eliminated from the body differently than alcohol. While BAC correlates closely with impairment, there is no such measure (e.g., THC) for marijuana that correlates with impairment. Thus, a BAC-equivalent impairment measure is not possible. Typically, if the suspect is found to be under the influence of alcohol, especially when the BAC is at, or above, the legal limit, the investigation stops at that point, even if the officer has reason to suspect that the use of other drugs is contributing to the suspect’s impairment. There are several disincentives for investigating potential impairment due to drugs other than alcohol when BAC evidence clearly shows an illegal alcohol level.

This action resulted in NCSBN evolving as “an organization of stature, strengthening the images of boards of nursing as state government agencies concerned with protecting the public health, safety and welfare, and fostering within our profession an increased respect and recognition of this crucial role” (Mildred Schmidt, NCSBN president 1979–1981).

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) produces publications, online courses and videos that contribute to the body of nursing knowledge. NRBs obviously have different structures that may provide limitations in notice; differing state hiring processes; varying restrictions regarding input into job descriptions, performance evaluations and feedback; and constraints on who participates in the selection process. Each of these factors should be considered when drafting the short-term and long-term succession plans. 2022 | Toolkit Nurse Practice Act Toolkit All states and territories legislated a nurse practice act (NPA) which establishes a board of nursing (BON) with the authority to develop administrative rules or regulations to clarify or make the law more specific.
