The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. Their support of NLC legislation acknowledges that multistate licensure benefits both nurses and the citizens of Minnesota by increasing access to care, assisting in workplace shortages and responding to times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.   Sen. Carla Nelson is sponsoring Senate bill 2302 to enact the NLC in Minnesota. It will be heard in the Health and Human Services Finance and Policy Committee on Feb. 21 from 1:00- 2:30 pm in the Minnesota Senate Building.   Currently, there are 39 jurisdictions that have enacted the NLC which allows registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to have one multistate license, with the ability to practice in-person or via telehealth, in both their home territory/state and other NLC states.
