    The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. Finally, a Duty of Obedience requires that a board member act consistently with the organization's mission and goals.  The board engages legal counsel to assist in identifying legal liabilities and risks for the organization. (Qualifications and expectations of legal counsel are specified in policy 6.4). Vedder, Price, Kaufmann & Kammholz is the legal firm presently retained by the Board (since 1979). Thomas M. Wilde is the lead attorney. NCSBN has access, coordinated by Mr. Wilde, to other VPKK resources in areas such as intellectual property, trademark, employment and not-for-profit law.
