    When developing social media poli- cies, faculty should be aware of the nation- al and international guidelines that are available. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) has developed guidelines and illustrative cases from a nurs- ing regulation perspective that are publical- ly available on their social media Web site page (NCSBN, 2012). The cases can be used to engage students in interactive teaching sessions. While subtle and not egregious viola- tions, the cases make students think that this is something they too might have done. One of the examples is about a nursing stu- dent who posted a photo of a patient on her Facebook page, not realizing that this is a violation of patient confidentiality.

  • Marijuana-Impaired Driving

    The report is to educate the public that drugs other than alcohol, including marijuana, are absorbed, distributed and eliminated from the body differently than alcohol. While BAC correlates closely with impairment, there is no such measure (e.g., THC) for marijuana that correlates with impairment. Thus, a BAC-equivalent impairment measure is not possible. The poor correlation of THC concentrations in the blood with impairment is discussed, along with the implication that setting per se levels is not meaningful. Some of the challenges of measuring driving impairment resulting from marijuana use are reviewed. State laws relating to marijuana and driving are presented. What is known about the prevalence of marijuana-impaired driving and the crash risk associated with marijuana-impaired driving is reviewed.
