This adaptive process continues throughout the exam, much like someone repeatedly adjusting weights on a balance scale to measure mass. https://www.ncsbn.org/past-event/2025-nclex-conference ©2025 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 2 The NCLEX exam includes both dichotomous and polytomous scoring items. Dichotomous items are scored as correct or incorrect, awarding 1 point for a correct response and 0 points for an incorrect response. Polytomous items have multiple score points, such as 1, 2, or 3. This allows us to distinguish people who know something from those who know nothing. Additionally, every candidate will encounter clinical judgment unfolding case studies and standalone items.

Marijuana-Impaired Driving
The report is to educate the public that drugs other than alcohol, including marijuana, are absorbed, distributed and eliminated from the body differently than alcohol. While BAC correlates closely with impairment, there is no such measure (e.g., THC) for marijuana that correlates with impairment. Thus, a BAC-equivalent impairment measure is not possible. The DRE performs a drug influence evaluation (DIE) on the suspected impaired driver in order to determine whether the observed impairment is likely to be due to drug use (and if so, what specific type of drug(s)) or whether the observed impairment is due to neurological conditions, illness, or disease.

Candidate Eligibility ESTABLISHING ELIGIBILITY Once a candidate has applied to a NRB and their application has been evaluated, it is up to that NRB to transmit eligibility information to Pearson VUE. This is done by setting each candidate’s eligibility status through the Administration Website (refer to the Help Section on the Administration Website) or by transmitting data to Pearson VUE using a jursin.dat file (NRBs using this method must be provided with instructions from Pearson VUE on setting eligibility status in jurisin.dat files).

Polytomous scoring, the way we're doing it takes care of that. It also has the ability to take care of what I call gaining the system or guessing. So if you look at the video, you'll see how we're countering for that. We're using ultimately what we call a plus/minus system. So, you get points for guessing correctly. You get minus points for guessing incorrectly on any item that is sort of open-ended which says, select all that apply, which means I'm not forcing you to select only three. I'm saying you can select as many as you want or as the least amount you want.
