And in the realm of being provocative, I was fascinated with [inaudible] Grande's [SP] ability to consider peer feedback in terms of the surgical suite and surgical skills. And certainly, we talked a little bit before about 360 degree of [inaudible], which really probably belongs in the realm of your facility review, that kind of thing. But is there a place for peer comparison in maintenance of certification? Does it belong there? Should it belong there? When I'm, you know, holding my credential over whatever number of years, how do I know where I sit in relation to my peers in my role in population?

Typically, your nursing faculty at your school, in your program tell you when you should be applying. I believe in some places you can apply even prior to graduation. So, I'm not positive on that. But if it's not during your last semester, then it's immediately after graduation. And that may depend on the state because there are states that give you a temporary license until it comes in.

So for example, with the case study, what cues would be important to include? Also, when you are developing these evaluation tools, create stopping points. Stopping points help you, the instructor, identify where a student could have gone wrong in their thinking. It also helps students raise their awareness that there are separate different skills involved in your decision making.

What are some of the ways that an organization can use simulation in order to bridge that gap as a newly licensed nurse? - I primarily see it being used during the orientation period. So a lot of times, and I'm dating myself when I had my orientation, my first job, a lot of it was like classroom. Maybe there was a little bit of skills, but I think it's a great way because all new grads don't come in with the same skill set. They're not... We come from different universities, different programs.

And she asks, if students have concern about online proctoring, how are you addressing test security concerns? - That is an excellent question, Sarah. And, you know, we are still using it for that very reason. And, you know, the reality that sort of counterpoint on this, of course, is when you go take your boards, when you go take your NCLEX or your pre-licensure, you will be in a proctored environment. It is no different than that. What the other side of that is that there are other ways to demonstrate mastery of content aside from multiple choice examinations.

I've seen copies of signatures on forms and that sort of stuff. But then there's maybe the time element, could the nurse actually have done that and done other things that day? This is definitely one where I think before-the-act and after-the-act analysis could really be helpful. When did the nurse get to the next patient? Was that much earlier than she normally got to that patient? And of course, you also have to look at Patient X. Does Patient X have memory problems? And even if he or she does, were there other family ©2024 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

Boards of Nursing don't administer the NCLEX-RN or PN anymore and so, we felt like it was a modernization aspect that we'd be removing this at this point. Applicant and Licensee Background. With regard to the Criminal Background Check and a Criminal Conviction Matrix, currently, there isn't any language in the Model that talks about providing a mechanism for Boards of Nursing to make an assessment of when a criminal conviction would be a bar for licensure when you would deny a license or… Yes. And so, we looked at language that would help a Board of Nursing to make a thoughtful look at a particular crime, any of them.

And we do have a paper in preparation that looks at the difference, because there was a significant difference between the experiences students had when they had to get their own preceptor versus when preceptors were hired and/or contracted by programs directly. I see another question from Shannon. Shannon asks, "Another big question is, 'Do we need so many FNPs?'
