We often misinterpreted victims' reactions to trauma, which discouraged victims for participating in the criminal justice system and resulted in offenders not being held accountable for their crimes. Much like we are more informed today about police officer trauma following critical incidents, research and experience informs us that we need to educate ourselves on the science behind sexual assault victims' reactions to trauma.

About 7.3% of the survey respondents reported having worked outside the U.S. as a registered nurse. 19.4% of the respondents reported working as an LPN/VN prior to working as an RN. 2 Orientation. Most of the respondents to the current study reported receiving some type of orientation. No formal orientation was reported by 4.7% of the respondents and .4% reported having only classroom instruction or skills lab work for their orientation. The majority (72.7%) of respondents reported working with an assigned mentor or preceptor for an average of 9.19 weeks. Only 8.3% reported having a formal internship.
