    The level of emotion. It was exciting. It was intense. They told Kathy Thomas and myself that we just expected too much. And we took our infamous walk in the woods so that we can get to where we are. It took 27 years of expecting too much and determination. It is that expecting too much and determination is why we all stand here today. And this year marks our 25th anniversary and we're very excited to be celebrating 25 years of success. Over the past 25 years, the compact has been a testament to the power of collaboration among the states to break down barriers and empower nurses to practice seamlessly across state lines.

    JNE0315GUESTEDITORIAL.indd Guest Editorial The National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s Transition to Practice Study: Implications for Educators The long-awaited results of phase I (RNs in hospitals) of the National Council of State Boards of Nurs- ing’s (NCSBN) multisite, randomized, controlled Transition to Practice study have been released (Spector et al., 2015). This large, national study is the only transition-to-practice research that ran- domly assigned sites to a control group (they used their existing onboarding strat- egies) or to NCSBN’s evidence-based transition to practice (TTP) program. The study investigated whether a transition- to-practice program for new graduates made a difference in several outcomes related to quality and safety.

The mutual benefit when considering the potential need for extra healthcare personnel, while also recognizing the challenges that nursing education programs were experiencing as clinical sites began to limit and altogether temporarily stop accepting nursing students, helped propel this idea forward.
