This is important research because students in FNP programs are expected to develop autonomy in their practice throughout their educational experiences. This autonomy includes the management of patients with previously-diagnosed and undiagnosed conditions. https://www.ncsbn.org/15185.htm ©2021 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. Like the state-based supervisory arrangements themselves though, the lived reality of these waivers across impacted states remains unclear and likely uneven. For instance, little evidence has emerged about how such waivers ultimately affected financial requirements, provisions regarding the extent and frequency of collaboration, telehealth usage, and other elements directly linked to patient access. https://www.ncsbn.org/15185.htm ©2021 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 2 In addition, how these changes have impacted APRN discipline rates, if at all, is unknown. To augment the literature on these important topics, NCSBN designed a cross-sectional study to identify current APRN practice trends across the US during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The primary factors that emerged from this analysis were confusion as to what constituted a reportable offense, a lack of clarity over how to report to an external regulatory body, and various facility-level barriers including existing policy and culture. The results of this study were then published in the Journal of Nursing Regulation in mid-2018. https://www.ncsbn.org/15185.htm ©2021 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.
