    The NLC will have more opportunities in the state during the next legislative session. • MA: their legislature is still in session, and State Affairs is continuing coalition work. Hearings will begin in January 2024. APRN: There were seven introductions of 4 the compact; three of those states passed one chamber (AZ, MD, MT).

    Hochul’s 2025 budget. State Affairs worked closely with the ANA- NY chapter, who treated the NLC as a priority this year. The New York State Nurses Association (the nurse union) was in opposition. In May the state held its first hearing on the NLC, and The Assembly Higher Education Committee voted to hold the bill for consideration.

    The state assembly is controlled by Democrats. NCSBN is hiring a lobbyist there. Prior to the election, the now ex-governor had expressed support for the NLC. We need to educate the new administration about the bill. • New York: Governor Hochul mentioned adoption of the NLC in her State of the State address.
