The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) Celebrates Milestone Anniversary in 2025 | NCSBN
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: media@ncsbn.org The NLC is celebrating 25 years of multistate mobility and greater access to care. Implemented in 2000, the NLC has successfully reduced regulatory barriers to cross-border nursing practice. The NLC allows registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to have one multistate license, with the ability to practice in person or electronically in both their home state and other NLC states. Licensure requirements are aligned in NLC states for those nurses applying for a multistate license. Requirements include submitting to a federal and state fingerprint-based criminal background check, passing the NCLEX Examination, and having no encumbrances.

The calcu- lations for the total development and ongoing cost of the TTP pro- gram per NGRN are provided in Table 4. Using the replacement cost reported by The Lewin Group (2009), the net replacement cost savings for an NGRN in the hospi- tal setting for the TTP group ver- sus the Limited Control group was $4,643 (see Table 5). Comparing net replacement cost savings with total cost per NGRN to maintain the TTP program ($3,185), there was a net cost savings of $1,458 per NGRN retained. After account- ing for initial program develop- ment cost ($723 per NGRN), the net cost saving was $735 per NGRN retained.

And so should have the same type of relationship with other healthcare professionals as the RN has. - Great. Thank you, Ruby. We can move on to our next question. I believe this is located on pages 4 and 5 of the business book. The question come from Carol Moody. Under scope of practice for both LPN or for LPN and VN, in Article 3 Section 1, C1, it reads collecting data and conducting nursing assessment. I understand focus was removed, but how are you differentiating LPN assessment from an RN assessment as I do not think assessment is taught in LPN programs?

For instance, expert nurses have been shown to use more forward reasoning in decision-making (e.g., data evaluation triggers a hypothesis), while novice nurses are shown to use more backward reasoning (e.g., hypothesis constrains data evaluation). Therefore, any manipulation affecting the collection of information (e.g., the quality of information, the ratio of confirming/disconfirming evidence to a particular action plan, etc.) will differentially impact expert and novice nurses in their ability to update their hypothesis. Hence, offering a method to differentiate between novice and expert nurses (Lamond, Crow, & Chase, 1996; Lauri & Salantera, 1995).

Washington To Allow Nurses with Multistate Licenses to Begin Practicing in the State July 24 | NCSBN
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. Residents of Washington will be unable to obtain a multistate license until the NLC is fully implemented in the state. A taskforce has been convened to outline the full implementation plan of the NLC. The compact allows registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to have one multistate license, with the ability to practice in person or via telehealth, in both their home territory/state and other NLC states. Licensure requirements are aligned in NLC states, so all nurses applying for a multistate license are required to meet those same standards, including submission to a federal and state fingerprint-based criminal background check.
