CAT administration offers several advantages over the tradi- tional paper and pencil testing. These advantages include: greater measurement efficiency of a candi- date’s competence level, shorter testing time, year-round continuous testing, and a less stressful environ- ment. Computerized adaptive testing is a method for administering examinations, which uses current computer technology and measure- ment theory. The NCLEX examina- tion administered via CAT uses standard NCLEX examination multiple-choice questions. With CAT, each candidate’s test is unique: it is assembled interactively as the individual is tested.

Candidates clearly above the passing standard pass. Candidates clearly below the passing standard fail. If the candidate’s ability level is close enough to the passing standard that it is not clear which side of the passing standard his/her ability falls, the com- puter continues asking items. As more items are answered, the candidate’s ability estimate becomes more precise. After each item, the candidate’s abil- ity level is recomputed, using all of the information (answers to all the items asked) available at that point.

Maybe that's not good enough if you're receiving that stuff. One of the things we do is we do have a remote access site for documents. So we will communicate with the board via email but if we have packets and we have records we want them to review, what we'll do is we'll put it up on this secure site and then they access it that way so we're not sending it through email but I think that's a great point.

Therefore, it is essential that screening be universal. • Routine screening should rely on validated screening tools, such as questionnaires, including 4Ps, NIDA Quick Screen, and CRAFFT (for women 26 years or younger). • For chronic pain, practice goals include strategies to avoid or minimize the use of opioids for pain man- agement, highlighting alternative pain therapies such as nonpharmacologic (eg, exercise, physical therapy, behavioral approaches), and nonopioid pharmaco- logic treatments.

To apply the findings of the study to practice, it is important to consider the limitations. By design, this study was limited to new nurse graduates’ perception of preparedness for practice. Although important, self-perception is only one aspect of assessing the adequacy of preparation of nursing students for practice.

And when those things come together you freak out, for lack of a clinical term. So, in those moments when we think about what that looks like, we can appreciate then, and sometimes anticipate, what will happen next. So, no planning. I know we talked about a Leena before. This is not that Leena. And this is a patient of mine. Her name is changed. And I just want to introduce you to her as a little bit of a case study that I hope will carry through this presentation and maybe also into tomorrow. Leena is 26 years old. And is there anything that pops off the screen in your mind when you just look at that very brief description of her from a regulation perspective?
