Online comments by a nurse regarding co-workers, even if posted from home during nonwork hours, may constitute as lateral violence. Lateral violence is receiving greater attention as more is learned about its impact on patient safety and quality clinical outcomes. Lateral violence includes disruptive behaviors of intimidation and bullying, which may be perpetuated in person or via the Internet, sometimes referred to as “cyber bullying.”

    The 2016 legislative sessions were also robust for telehealth legislation. More than 200 bills were introduced across states. Bills defined providers, clarified reimbursement strategies, and, in some cases formed advisory taskforces. Of particular attention were bills pertaining to cross border practice. The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (FSMB) have 17 states adopting it and another nine in which it has been introduced. They have a sufficient number to initiate rulemaking and will meet in August, 2016 to review comments to their rules structure.
