Basically, I'm just going to very briefly have a little history lesson for everyone and just do a very brief comparative history of the original Compact and the current NLC's Compact, and what the difference is in their rulemaking and rulemaking authority.

    But, that's not covered in this. This study is more overlap, this is more related to the practice act and what actually happened overall regarding regulations. So, in summary, the use of simulation in educational programs has risen substantially in the past decade, for both RN and LPN/VN programs, over 60% of jurisdictions now specifically refer to the use of simulation in program approval regulatory documents. Basically, it went from one-third of the jurisdictions to two-thirds of the jurisdictions. And over a third of RN and LPN educational programs now allow the substitution of simulation hours for up to 50% of clinical hours.

    The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. The ICNLCA is a governmental and joint public agency of the party states created and established on July 20, 2017. The Executive Committee is the seven-member elected leadership of the ICNLCA.   About the NLC The NLC allows for registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to have one multistate license, with the ability to practice in person or via telehealth in both their home state and other NLC states. There are 43 members of the NLC. Licensing standards are aligned in NLC states, so all nurses applying for a multistate license are required to meet the same standards, which include a federal and state criminal background check that will be conducted for all applicants for multistate licensure.
