NurSys and ORBs is 3% of the budget, IT infrastructure equals 10%, and keep in mind that we're like all of you in seeing a significant increase in IT costs. Support services at 11% includes governance, marketing, advocacy, and finance, and HR, and office space equals 2%. NCSBN is not immune to the impact of inflation which results in higher operational costs. We project that we will continue to need to use reserve funds to support operations, resulting in a decline in the reserve balanc ...

I'm really delighted to be here today as part of the annual NCLEX Conference. And my session today is going to take a little different view than what we've heard this morning. But we're going to use the information you used this morning in this presentation. So you see the title is "Next Generation NCLEX, the NGN, Applications to Educational Settings." So, what does that mean? Well, that means that we've learned about the NGN, we've learned about case studies, we've learned about the questions, the test item formats, even some perhaps on scoring. But we haven't really talked about how are you going to get your students ready for the NGN?

We still have to build that. We're getting further along with that task model and all, but how does that work? Jason and his team are working on that, so I would think in the next year we'll probably even more fine-tune that. And the NGN concept was added to every presentation we do now. If we go out, you talk about NGN, that's my rule. So you can go… You're supposed to talk about something else? Make sure you're talking about NGN as well. And, the item writings at least, I believe Jan have a one- hour.

All rights reserved. 12 And the wonderful thing about the U.S.is that, because we have a state-based system, we've actually got a natural experiment, and you can actually compare how some of these things are working. We're just about to...we're funding a project where the U.S., Australia, and the UK are actually looking at how we can datamine some of the results of these investigations to try and then differentiate out the cases that you can actually deal with very rapidly and consistently well versus those that actually need different types of scenario.

Very, very nice. That's an example of a new project in the Data Lake. And we anticipate that our dashboard for NLC compliance will also be in the Data Lake. But that monumental project is not at that stage yet where we can provide state-specific data on Nursys reports. ©2025 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

What has been the level of Canadian participation in developing these kinds of questions? And if there hasn't been, are Canadian educators and nurses eligible to participate in developing the new exam? - That is a great question. And the answer is yes. So the writing panels that we have held that are for NCLEX and NGN always have Canadian representation on them. So these...the recruitment for those is to have representation across the United States and Canada. And so these items, also, that you have seen, some of them have been written by Canadian educators such as yourselves.

One of the things that we continue to do with our research program on the examination side is we continue to examine clinical judgment and its intersection between clinical practice of entry-level nurses and our assessment. So, Dr. Qian and I, we've been working on this project for the last couple of years, and we're, you know, here to just kind of share the results with you. So, this is essentially the agenda. We'll kind of talk about the background, and you may appreciate the background because it really will help kind of create a foundation of the overall project as well.

So, like I mentioned before, it's not necessarily about points. Everything is scaled to the current NCLEX scale. And so, much like we do today, with the standard setting, we set a standard of what a passing ability looks like, we'll do the same with NGN. And we're currently actively in the works of that as well. So, we will have a standard that incorporates all the items, both the traditional NCLEX items, the NGN items, the entire test design, and we'll set a single standard that determines the pass.
