The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. “Because of the pandemic, clinical rotations were sometimes not open to students and they were justifiably disappointed,” says Koklys. “When we explained that many of the units were turned into ICUs and the nurses reassigned, understanding dawned in their eyes about what was really going on.” Lewis nursing students have administered the vaccine to school bus drivers, emergency medical services personnel and people on the autism spectrum. Generally, Lewis students administer from 200 to 1,000 vaccine doses per week. Soon, in partnership with major pharmacy chain in the Chicago metro area, the Lewis campus will serve as vaccine administration site for adults with special needs and those who care for young children with special needs.

All right, so here's where the work is going in the future, I think hopefully it will interest you, who knows. We still have this giant quality question that hangs out, does licensing actually increase quality? And we have this giant question because I still don't know how you measure quality. But the plus side is, I think you can measure quality in the medical field. There are certain things in the medical field that signal quality. For instance, cost of care. It's entirely possible if we're actually increasing the number of people who are nurses. That should equate to lower cost of medical care, and increased access to medical care.

Common accommodation requests include extra time, for example in intervals of 2-3 hours, and separate rooms for candidates to focus. This slide details comfort aids, common items that a candidate can bring into a test center without a pre- approved accommodation request. This includes things like cough drops, glucose tablets, inhalers, and some medical devices, for example a medical footstool. Please note that medical devices that make noise will require an accommodation as well as a separate room to ensure it does not disturb other test takers. These are commonly requested accommodations that are not allowed by NCSBN. https://www.ncsbn.org/past-event/2025-nclex-conference ©2025 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

If I could change the world, that would be one thing that I would change was I would make it a lot easier for midwifery and advanced practice programs to place their students, you know, nationally. It was much harder earlier on during the pandemic where we were basically shut down and that's where there was inequity with medical residents, medical students having a much easier time particularly when the academic medical centers had such a much closer alignment between schools of medicine and academic medical centers than schools of nursing have with academic medical centers. - Thank you.
