Every item is pretested before it's placed on an exam for scoring purposes. This is our opportunity to gather statistical data, to make sure that the item is functioning well. And this data is used to evaluate the items and to ensure that everything is accurate and that it's a good fit for the NCLEX exam. So the RN and PN exam both have 15 pretest items. They're randomly intermixed into the exam. Candidates are not aware which items are pretest items and which ones are actually scored. They are not scored so they are not used to measure a candidate's ability.

There is variability in length/expectations of programs. We are not sure what your ‘product’ is.” “If all programs are accredited, and that is the measure of the quality of a program--- how can there be variability in the product? How can we know a good program? How can we be assured of ROI for tuition investment?” Susan Mullaney, Senior Director Center for Clinician Advancement United Health Group (Practice) CURRENT ISSUES IN NURSING EDUCATION » Multiple degree paths in nursing education which is messy and confusing!

They don't understand why that knowledge flew out the window. Say an RN who specializes in the treatment of children with cystic fibrosis engages in a friendship with the parent of one of her young patients. The friendship develops into a sexual relationship. Or an LPN who does home care returns to the home of a former patient ostensibly for a social visit, only to be found by a family member to be stealing the patient's opioid medication. Nurses like these know they are supposed to adhere to professional ethical principles like doing good or avoiding causing harm.

We have APRNs that put in a clinical nurse specialist application, a CRNA application, and a nurse practitioner application. And I'm like, "Do you not know what you just graduated as?" And I always say to my staff, "You can't fix stupid." So you can't stop those things. But I can't renew an LPN license if I'm an RN. And it's built where you can
