I would tell students, when you hear that there are trick questions on there, stop listening. When you hear that there is a system to try to beat the exam or to keep you from passing, it doesn’t exist. I would also tell students that they shouldn’t be afraid to ask educators to explain more and to discuss where their areas of weakness are so that they can be successful on the exam and in their career.”

The NCSBN ID is publicly available free of charge through the Nursys® system as part of the nurse license status verification. The NCSBN ID is not a system nor a database, rather it is one data element that facilitates accurate nurse search and match when made part of the nurse’s record in any nurse data set, by uniquely identifying each nurse even when there may be duplicate names, birth dates or other information. Organizations can acquire the NCSBN ID for the nurses in their systems through Nursys online nurse lookup, file transfer or the application programming interface (API) system.

Because Nursys aggregates data across jurisdictions, the information it provides exceeds what state licensure websites can offer alone. For example, a Nevada-based employer subscribing to e-Notify will not only be alerted when there is action against an employee’s nursing license in Nevada, but even if action is taken in another state such as Tennessee or Wyoming. This additional layer of public protection, requiring only that employers subscribe to e-Notify, is one that likely would not happen otherwise.
