    The program began last year when the first meeting was jointly hosted by NCSBN and the Minnesota Board of Nursing. The most recent workshop, held in conjunction with the Mississippi Board of Nursing and hosted by the Univer- sity of Mississippi’s School of Nursing, was presented April 26, 2007 in Jackson, Mississippi. About 100 participants joined the Mississippi Board of Nursing for this one-day workshop. Including the attendees from Mississippi, several other states within Area III had participants in attendance. Continuing education credit was provided through the University of Mississippi’s School of Nursing.

    A 2010 survey of BONs conducted by NCSBN indicated an overwhelming majority of responding BONs (33 of the 46 respondents) reported receiving complaints of nurses who have violated patient privacy by posting photos or information about patients on social networking sites. The majority (26 of the 33) of BONs reported taking disciplinary actions based on these complaints. Actions taken by the BONs included censure of the nurse, issuing a letter of concern, placing conditions on the nurse’s license or suspension of the nurse’s license.
