Every time an item is answered, the computer re-estimates the candidate's ability and selects the next item that is close to the ability estimate. Which each response a candidate's ability estimate gets updated and it become more precise. This is a graphical representation of the adaptive algorithms. The Y-axis is the scale used for both item difficulty and the candidate ability. On this scale, the larger number always indicates a harder question or higher ability. A smaller number will always indicate an easier question or a lower ability. On the other hand, that X-axis is simply a tracker of the number of operational items.

So, I would like to highlight for you the hard work that the NEC has done over the past year. You can see, but I'll have you pay attention to bullet points five and six, because I think this is what we're all here for today for delicate assembly. It is a proposed '26 RN and PN NCLEX test plans. So, if I haven't learned anything since I started as a regulator in 2010, when I started NEC back in 2014… Two things that you learn, one, it's psychometrically sound, and two, it's legally defensible. And I can't tell you how many times I use that, so be sure that you take that away.
