  • Marijuana-Impaired Driving

The report is to educate the public that drugs other than alcohol, including marijuana, are absorbed, distributed and eliminated from the body differently than alcohol. While BAC correlates closely with impairment, there is no such measure (e.g., THC) for marijuana that correlates with impairment. Thus, a BAC-equivalent impairment measure is not possible. Some studies have reported a fairly wide variability that is affected by the means of ingestion (smoking, oil, and edibles), potency, and user characteristics. Most research on the effects of marijuana has used smoking and often do not measure the concentration of THC in the blood. Figure 2 Absorption of THC in Plasma after Smoking Note: Whole Blood THC is less than Plasma THC Figure 2 (above) shows a generalized example of the absorption of THC in the blood (plasma) after smoking a marijuana cigarette (Heustis, 2007, Huestis, Hemmingfield, Cone, 1992).

The third and final scoring rule is the rationale scoring rule and this scoring rule applies to items that have tightly paired information. And having a full understanding of the concept requires justification through a rationale. In the simplest form, you can think of this as a nurse must do X because of Y. These items come in two structural forms, a dyad and a triad. Dyads are worth one point and a triad is worth two points. Here's an example of a drop-down rationale. The client is at highest risk for developing X as evidenced by Y. To earn a point, an examinee must get both drop-downs correct.
