    (NCSBN) | 2025 3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Respondents indicated working an average of 6.6 months as RNs in the U.S. and its territories. On average, RNs reported earning a nursing degree 13.4 months prior to taking the survey. Approximately 15.3% of newly licensed RNs reported previous experience as a licensed practical/vocational nurse (LPN/VN), and 46.6% reported previous experience as unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP). The average experience in those positions was 7.1 years as an LPN/VN and 3.3 years as a UAP. Orientation The majority of newly licensed RNs (97.9%) received some form of formal orientation.
