Meet the Researchers | NCSBN
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. She is a certified project manager professional and holds a Ph.D. in Education Psychology (Psychometrics) from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Nicole’s primary research interests include licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and the broader nursing workforce, in addition to prelicensure education. Nicole’s recent works include an investigation of the nurse educator workforce and the LPN workforce through the lens of race and ethnicity. Other recent works include examining the adoption of virtual clinical simulation in LPN programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, regulation of clinical simulation during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a preliminary examination of healthcare facilities’ nurse staffing strategies to address COVID-19 surges.

The compact allows registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to have one multistate license, with the ability to practice in person or via telehealth, in both their home territory/state and other NLC states. As far as decisions, we need to make sure that they're based on data and analytics. It's really important to follow the data and have a solid basis for the decisions that we make. And then we want to think about our audience and create compelling messages. We need to find a good balance between providing facts and information, but then also being able to tell a story and engage our users. And then we need to follow our brand. We're the leaders in regulation and our online presence needs to reflect this by being consistent and trustworthy.

Provision 3 of the Code of Ethics for Nurses states that the nurse promotes, advocates for and protects the rights, health and safety of the patient (ANA, 2015). Another ethical principle is nonmaleficence, or “do no harm.” AI should not be harmful but should support the principle of beneficence or “doing good.” Patient safety is predominant in nursing care, and nurses play a fundamental role in upholding this essential principle through the planning, implementation and delivery of safe nursing care. While providing quality, patient-centered care, nurses often make difficult decisions and must account for numerous patient-specific factors.
