Prior to me becoming the executive director, I was the director of Advanced Practice and Licensure for the Mississippi Board of Nursing. One of the issues was the mileage restriction of 25 to 30 miles. And we are a collaborative state. So that was an issue that basically was in the Board of Medical Licensure's rules and regulations. We reviewed our rules and regulations. We did not have a mileage restriction, but because we were a collaborative state, we had to work with the Board of Medical Licensure to get that rule changed. So that was one of the things that we worked with initially with the regulatory board.

And now I'm currently working with the Nursing Board. What brings me all here? I was hoping to have it adopted by the Nursing Board earlier before I was able to present to you all, but naturally there's some idiosyncrasies in the Nurse Practice Act in Colorado that required a little bit more attention. So, still working with the Nursing Board but very hopeful that both nursing and [00:35:30] medical will adopt, again, some version of this policy hopefully over the summer. Another new piece of legislation that we'll be dealing with. Is House Bill 1098.

My counterparts at NABP and NCSBN will then come to the podium and offer similar perspectives from their organizations. You'll hear from Jay Campbell, president of NABP, and then from Julia George, president of NCSBN. The one constant that I've learned from my years of involvement with the FSMB is that the mission of state medical boards to protect the public is unwavering and remains at the core of our very existence. At the same time, it is readily apparent that the medical regulatory world is rapidly evolving. Issues that were receiving not much attention just a few years ago, are now front and center before the public and our profession.

You know, lots of blood, sweat, and tears over those negotiations. And so, we think that it's highly unlikely these states will adopt the APRN Compact knowing that it's going to make these negotiations moot. Other legislative factors include, there's growing medical opposition against the APRN Compact that can't be news to any of us, but the American Medical Association and the American Society of Anesthesiology say that the APRN Compact imposes independent practice on a state. Well, it does include independent practice.
