This is because I believe that it is so important to protect the public and make sure the nursing workforce is safe and competent to practice. I like working with the attorneys, going through that process and seeing results. I’m actually planning to pursue an NCSBN Institute of Regulatory Excel- lence (IRE) fellowship and my fellowship project would focus on discipline. Editor’s note: The IRE Fellowship Program is a four-year comprehensive educational and professional development program designed for current regulators who want to enhance their knowledge of and leadership in nursing regulation.

Transcript_2019DCM_ALembke.pdf
They just engage in denial, like, "This isn't really happening. This patient isn't really getting addicted to this drug, and I'm okay to keep prescribing." The other thing they do is a primitive defense mechanism called projection. That's where I take my uncomfortable emotion and I project it onto another human being so I don't have to tolerate it. So I'm feeling anger toward my drug-seeking patient, I project my anger onto her and I say, "Oh, she has borderline personality disorder." And that absolves me from having to look at the much more complicated situation of me being angry at somebody who's getting addicted to a drug that I'm prescribing.

I'm thinking of last year 2021 around June, we got approached by our IT director and said, "Hey, we're looking at robotic process automation. Are you interested?" And we said, "Yes, please. We'll look into it." So, us and the Board of Medicine engaged in a project review. And we took on a pretty substantial initial project, which was to have a virtual licensing staff manage our mail electronically. And so we have had a contractor work with a vendor, and I don't know what the technical term is, but the engineers wrote all the code. ©2022 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

The program content is based upon the work of NCSBN’s 1996-1997 Disciplinary Resources Modules Task Force. Vickie Sheets, NCSBN Director of Practice and Regulation, prepared the materials in collaboration with outside consultants, Linda Smith from the Intervention Project for Nurses and Jean Stevens, former President of the Washington Nursing Commission. The video includes narrative, expert opinions and dramatization of the issue and centers on the experience of one chemically dependent nurse and her colleagues, presenting two different scenarios with very different outcomes.

2011 ANNUAL MEETING INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA AUG. 3 - 5, 2011 About this Illustration The illustration used to symbolize the 2011 NCSBN theme, Transforming the Future of Regulatory Leadership, was inspired by a quote attributed to Harriet Tubman, an African-American abolitionist: “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” The elements of the illustration were chosen to reflect both the theme and the quote, as well as bring together symbols that evoke images of Indianapolis, the 2011 Annual Meeting host city.
