Big on everybody's mind, certainly the exam team's mind, Phil's mind, and nurse educators, I probably should say nursing students because my experience is that nursing students have been scared to death about the thought of this new exam and everybody's going, "Oh, there's a new..." You know, students can probably tell you more about the NGN than some of the educators can because they're looking at some of the wonderful resources that we have out there. But in 2023, we will launch ©2022 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 7 NGN and explore further usage of the model and we'll continue the work on development of a remote proctoring system.

And in this program, what I'm going to go through is introduce the study, provides some background on previous research that's been done, go through the methods used, discuss the results, and share some conclusions regarding next steps to be taken in this project. Research by NCSBN has shown that substance use disorder is the most common reason that disciplinary actions are taken against a nurse. SUD programs are engaged by over 40 boards of nursing to encourage successful treatment of nurses' condition and to return the nurse to safe and competent practice.

Eight hundred and nineteen thousand-plus Louisianans have received at least one of the vaccines, that's 20%. I'm very proud of those statistics. And I think we've done a really good job of rolling out the vaccine. And at this time, I'll be happy to answer any questions for you. - [Marianne] Karen, thank you very much. It's certainly quite a project you've been involved in, and such an important one. I'd like to open this up for questions for Karen. While we're waiting for those to come through, let me just begin by asking you, and you may have touched on this a little. But was there a need for your board ©2021 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

So global service-learning shares several qualities of high-impact practices described in prior research including, but not limited to, just want to point out diversity in global learning, making our nursing students very diverse with their experiences with patients because they may not see a particular case within their local hospital or outpatient setting. And so it really helps align them to see other experiences that are happening in the world if they decide to also work within a global sett ...

But anyway, all these different things, you had to take the wires for each piece and run it from whatever number it said to the next number. And when you got done, it ended up looking something like this. Now, some of them had just a few wires connecting them, some of them had a lot of wires. You just never knew exactly what the project was going to be as to how many it was going to take. That's really what we do in the Government Affairs office, especially at the national level, at the federal level. It's really about the connections that we're making. Sometimes it's like one of those short wires, it's a short project, and we're able to see really quick benefits from the connections that we make.

As we unwound our association programs, our board in their wisdom said to the staff, "You know, we really need to think about how we're going to do our regulatory functions. What's our philosophy? How are we going to do the work?" And so the colored words that you see there, we did a project where we engaged with a lot of our stakeholders to understand how they perceived us currently. A lot of confusion and lack of understanding about regulation vis-à-vis Association vis-à-vis Union. And a lot of information for us to think about in terms of our visibility or our lack of this ability with our registrants and stakeholders.

Animal studies show that specific alcohol-related traits, such as sensitivity to intoxication and sedative effects, develop- ment of tolerance and withdrawal, and even susceptibility to organ damage, can have genetic origins. Studies of family ill- nesses, twins, and adoption support a genetic contribution to alcoholism. The Human Genome Project is also contributing to our understanding of the role of genetics in alcoholism. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism’s (NIAAA) Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism discovered reduced brain-wave amplitude that reflects an underlying genetic variation in the brain’s response to alcohol (NIAAA, 2003).
