Since 2013, NCSBN has partnered with the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers to collect timely and accurate supply side U.S. nursing workforce data. Our stratified random sampling approach allows us to derive population- weighted national estimates and to project observed trends to all levels of the nursing workforce, from licensed practical and vocational nurses to advanced practice registered nurses. The National Nursing Workforce Survey utilizes a multi-mode survey study design, leveraging both direct mail and email outreach, as well as data collected systematically through NCSBN Nursys e-Notify System. https://www.ncsbn.org/video/nursing-at-the-crossroads ©2023 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

As we unwound our association programs, our board in their wisdom said to the staff, "You know, we really need to think about how we're going to do our regulatory functions. What's our philosophy? How are we going to do the work?" And so the colored words that you see there, we did a project where we engaged with a lot of our stakeholders to understand how they perceived us currently. A lot of confusion and lack of understanding about regulation vis-à-vis Association vis-à-vis Union. And a lot of information for us to think about in terms of our visibility or our lack of this ability with our registrants and stakeholders.

Animal studies show that specific alcohol-related traits, such as sensitivity to intoxication and sedative effects, develop- ment of tolerance and withdrawal, and even susceptibility to organ damage, can have genetic origins. Studies of family ill- nesses, twins, and adoption support a genetic contribution to alcoholism. The Human Genome Project is also contributing to our understanding of the role of genetics in alcoholism. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism’s (NIAAA) Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism discovered reduced brain-wave amplitude that reflects an underlying genetic variation in the brain’s response to alcohol (NIAAA, 2003).

So, since...and the background of this is, you know, since the evidence on the effect of the substitution was lacking, NCSBN was asked to undertake a study on simulation and the impact to nursing programs and training. And so, it undertook the National Simulation Study with the intent of providing guidance to boards of nursing on the regulation of simulation experiences. This project started in 2010 with a pre-survey that https://www.ncsbn.org/past-event/2024-ncsbn-scientific-symposium ...

When we set a standard, we need to keep the mission in our mind. Standards should be revisited when test specifications, scope of practice, education programs, and/or other factors change. When we change a test plan, we need to reevaluate the standard. When NGN comes, we need to do standard setting again. Thank you very much. I hope you didn't fall asleep. For more information about standard setting, please visit our website. Thank you.
