I currently work, when time permits, at a very busy trauma hospital on the west side in Chicago. So when I started as a new grad, I went straight into the emergency department. But at the time, many people, my professors, my counselors, everybody, people I knew, said, "Absolutely, do not go into the emergency department.

I mean, I'm not even sure it could be done. I mean, I think it would be interesting to do that. Okay. That's something worth noting. I think that's a good question. I know we haven't looked at it, but I think what you're suggesting might be possible that you could do that and you could say, "Okay, these people didn't renew the license, go out and do a research project on seeing what happened.

You do the assessment, but the RN has to sign off. What she's supposed to do is go in and do the assessment. So you see that confusion there. ©2024 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 3 And another LPN said, "This is the first place that I worked at that the LPN was allowed to do an admission assessment actually. The other place I worked, only the RN could do the assessment. Now, if I did the entire admission, an RN is going to look at the entire packet and sign off on it." So I think you see that the quotes really illustrate this confusion on what they should do.

It is not about self-promotion. There are certainly challenges and opportunities. Sometimes we look at opportunities as a negative word. However... Challenge as a negative word. However, I believe that being challenged can be positive. When individuals are elected to the Board of Directors or elected to an officer position, time and time again I hear, "I thought I knew how things worked." What I have learned is there's so much more to understand and learn.

This is the future. And behind me has always been my wife and my children. They are a support to me pursuing my dreams, and they make me so proud of the life that we have shared and the road that we have traveled. But before I conclude, let me just share one final personal reflection. So I was a lazy student, and as I transitioned to high school, I met with the then primary school headmaster, Mr. Fife. I remember him very clearly. And he had some words of wisdom to share with me and my mother.
