Probably one of the most important areas is when you talk about the healing professions. You know, I could say that, you know, I've been watching... I watched every episode of "ER" three or four times. I'm also up to speed with all the other medical shows. I think I could probably do some good work in an emergency room. Now, would you want to be the person that would be my patient? And that's what we are talking about. So what do nursing boards do? What do regulatory boards do? They establish minimum standards. And I want to kind of make that point.

NCSBN is an independent, non-profit association comprising 59 boards of nursing (BONs) from across the U.S., the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories. BONs are responsible for protecting the public through regulation of licensure, nursing practice, and discipline of the 4.8 million registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical/vocational (LPN/VNs) and advanced practice registered nurses in the U.S. with active licenses. NCSBN was created by these BONs to act and counsel with one another and to lessen the burden of government. The mission of NCSBN is to provide education, service, and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence-based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection.

Nurses can utilize e-Notify to track their license status. Let's learn just how easy, quick and efficient it is. NCSBN's Nursys is the only national database for verification of nurse licensure, discipline, and practice privileges for RNs, APRNs, and LPN/VNs from participating boards of nursing. U.S. boards of nursing and its territories push their licensing and discipline data, including board of nursing publicly available alerts to Nursys through frequent, secure updates. Through a written agreement, participating boards have designated Nursys as their primary source equivalent and authorized Nursys to share publicly available data.

Items should not be developed to trick a candidate, but are written to test the candidate's knowledge and clinical judgment. Writing good distractors is as important as writing a good key or stem. The distractors provide the opportunity to evaluate the candidate's knowledge and understanding of the concept of the item. Good distractors discriminate between the candidates who know the material and those who do not.
